MVP VACUUM MANIFOLD

Customer pain leads to good OEM win.

In the past, MVP had made efforts to win over a large OEM (Robotic Palletizing System manufacturer) to the MAC Valve technology, using TLD’s and Animations etc, but found it hard to break the long-standing relationship the OEM had with their current supplier.

MVP found that one of the OEM’s customers was having continual problems with dropping boxes on the Vacuum Palletizer. After some investigation with the customer, it was noted that the vacuum head was using 16 Festo CPE series valves as a distributor of vacuum to different zones of the vacuum cups. Every couple of months the customer would need to remove the complete valve island assembly, dismantle and clean out all the dust build up on spools coming from cardboard boxes via vacuum cups. This downtime took 2-3 hours with loss of production.

MVP asked the customer if we could design a valve manifold with a similar footprint for ease of installation, with the aim of ending the recurring downtime caused by contamination to the Festo valves.

A special 53 series back-to-back manifold was developed and installed a month later. All CPE manifolds on the OEM’s other factory robots were then replaced with the 53 solution in the following months.

In the 4 years since this install there has not been a single failure with the 53 series valves. Shortly after the first install the OEM recognised the improvement and has been installing the 53 series solution to all Robotic Vacuum Palletizer heads (16 -20 valves per head).

This is a good solution for applications that require compact vacuum distribution without any issues of failure due to contamination build-up.
